So what’s going on here? It’s a blog conference focusing on the topic of work and family. Yesterday, we had over 3,000 hits.
On Monday, I focused on general issues related to parenthood and work. The posts and discussion were about the hard and unappreciated work of parenting, different views on childcare, how parenting is harder than in the past, desires formore time at work and with kids, the necessity of two incomes, and parents in the business world.
On Tuesday, I focused on the problems of academics and family life. Posts and discussion covered the topics of the obstacles that I faced as a parent, the experiences of others, how nonparents also find academia incompatible with a personal life, academia versus other professions, and examples and proposals for good family policies in academia.
Wednesday, I’m going to try to stir up some debate between men and women and the childless and the parents. Thursday will look at feminism and politics. And Friday will be about why caring for others is worth all these hassles.
I urge you to look at the comments and add your own two cents. Even though I’m posting my heart out on a new topic, there’s no reason that the conversation has to stop elsewhere.

Yup, the initial link in this post is broken (there's a space between the href= and the first quotation mark) and the third link is broken (first links in the second paragraph). That's messing up all the rest, as far as I can see.
By the way, thanks for conceiving of and hosting this conference: it's been tremendous!

thanks for catching my mistakes. I initially wrote the post in Word and then transferred it to typepad. some quotes got screwed up in the process.
