New Kid on the Hallway

Congratulations and good luck!

Lisa V

Yes, congratulations! How exciting, scary and cool. You will figure it all out.

Allison

For me, "full time job" and "as little childcare as possible" spells disaster (or divorce). I say start with a little MORE childcare than you need, and then you can always cut back.

I highly reccommend finding some fun young teenagers to engage Ian and play with them for some of the hours that you or your husband are home but can be on the computer trying to get work done.

They can also load and unload dishwashers, fold laundry, and other light household things. You get to feel you are "there" but can still accomplish things. They work cheap, they are happy to earn the money and you don't feel like you are exploiting the masses.

geat to hear!

Congratulations!

I know, Allison. We will have to get more help than we originally planned on. We'll get someone to help with the house cleaning for sure, and Ian will go to daycare for three afternoons a week. I should be able to spring him out by 3 or 4. I'll have to work in the evenings, but I shouldn't have to work over the weekends. And I have six months to prepare. I'm going to try to write out all my lectures out now. In the fall of 07, Ian will start Kindergarten or its special education equivilent. He'll be there from 9 to 3 every day. Things should be much easier by then.

I've got a lot of logistics to work out by then, including whether Ian will be able to deal with a little bit of daycare. We start today. Crossing fingers.

Good for you Laura! It's so nice to see that your concerns about academic blogging were unfounded!

Macaroni

Such great news! Congrats!

Maddy

Many congrats!

I went the opposite way--had a full time job and am now at home and teaching part time. I'm sure you will figure it all out.
They are lucky to have you!

I love the mix of personal and political in your blog. It's a great read.

Congrats! Welcome to the world of juggling.

Congratulation Laura. I thought of you in the morning, but not during the interview for reasons that I'll blog about next week when I get home. Anyway, brilliant, and confirmation of their good judgment.

Mary Catherine Moran

Congratulations!! That is wonderful news.

Ancarett

Congratulations! I have a lot of experience with the whole juggling thing: until eldest was school-age the most that the girls were in someone else's care was three days a week while I worked fulltime and Mike was either working fulltime or back to school fulltime. Basically it works only if you have the support from your family to make it all possible and I'm sure you will have that!
