James Wolcott scores the cover of the New Republic. He reviews the Flanagan, Hirshman, and Steiner book in his essay, "Meox Mix." He makes some good points, while missing some of the most important ones.

Didn't read it because the title pissed me off too much. Meow Mix? WTF? When women disagree, they're having a catfight. When men disagree, it's a verrry verrry grownup and serious thing and we have to listen to a bunch of unattractive old farts talk about it on the evening news and the Sunday morning programs. Cuz men are so important! And girls are so silly!

Good thing you didn't read it then, because the article is even worse. He kept making snide little remarks about mommies and kids. He brags that he's a childless man and knows nothing about snotty kids. Ugh. Why is even writing about this topic? He did make some interesting comments about the individual books, but he doesn't wade into the bigger questions, like why are women so upset about work and family. I think he just writes us off as a bunch of whiners.
