Question of the Day — Ten Things That I Did Today

I accomplished ten things today:

1. Checked in with Dooce about 20 times to see if she had her baby yet.
2. Watch several videos of Gordon Ramsey imploding in Australia.
3. Consolidated 4 e-mail accounts into 1.
4. Wrote 2 new pages of stuff.
5. Walked for 2 miles at the gym.
6. Ate chocolate cake and a blueberry muffin for lunch.
7. Dodged the ancient people at Shop Rite. Bought rice and lettuce.
8. Helped kids with homework.
9. Called to reserve cottages on Lake George for the summer.
10. Cursed at the Groundhog.

  1. I don’t think I have 10. Hm, maybe I do.
    1. Bought a pool (Intex type). Online. Because Target has free shipping today on selected outdoor items and it saves me the hassle of trying to get it into my car.
    2. Agreed to rent a house on the Cape this summer.
    3. Argued with a local Republican over the nasty lies endemic in today’s right-winger discourse.
    4. E-mailed someone about adopting a dog.
    5. Yelled at the grackles in my backyard (they’re tormenting the robins, who have eggs again, and the cardinals. Plus they’re damned noisy.)
    6. Took a call to tell me tomorrow’s Sports Day has been canceled. YES!
    7. Talked to my mom and vented all my frustrations about a variety of minor things.
    8. Ate a peanut butter sandwich for lunch.
    9. E-ed with a colleague about arranging writing assessment for students in her summer class.
And I’m about to do 10:
    10. Go to my daughter’s academic fair, where she will be the Statue of Liberty and recite by memory “The New Colossus.”

  4. If anybody is interested, the secret to #10 is simple. When your wife says, “Would you like to go see a musical?” instead of saying “Didn’t we just see one last year?” or “Have I ever wanted to see a musical?” you say “Your mother has been babysitting a lot for us. Maybe you should take her to a show to say ‘thanks.’ I’ll watch the boy.”

  7. AmyP, hey! We go to Dennys! It’s my kids’ 2nd favorite restaurant after Friendlys, and I will often make the 20 minute drive (as opposed to the 2 minute drive to Friendlys) to go there because at least I can get breakfast-for-dinner at Denny’s.
