Well, I thought about sending articles on Elsevier or on students not attending their first place college, or political stuff.

But then I decided: baby bat learning to fly! http://grist.org/list/watch-an-orphaned-baby-bat-learn-to-fly/

Your Atlantic Monthly essay just got forwarded to our local AAUP mailing list (which only forwards a few articles a month).

I don't have any interesting links to share right now. But, I'll forward a story about crows snowboarding: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/video/21012012/58/crow-slide.html

View it now before copyright takes it down everywhere (it's not on youtube anymore).

For comic relief, how about some of those Newt/Schrute comparisons that are making the rounds?

This article is not really "news," but it has been making me re-think the concept of "a long time ago." 10th President John Tyler (born 1790) has two currently living grandchildren.

That's the Washington administration (first term!) to the Obama administration in just 3 men.

Speaking of a "day off," Did you see this? (SLYT)

Thanks to my loyal patronage of the $2 theater in town, I have no idea what almost any of these movies are.

Wondering if you've ever tried to get a gig as a columnist/blogger for the Chronicle of Higher Education. They don't exactly pay big bucks -- but it sounds like the kinds of questions you explore would be of interest to the folks there -- they're the same folks as the AAUP contingent.

Thanks, Alice. I'm actually going to writing more regularly for mainstream publications. I am not interested in writing only about higher Ed. An ocasional piece. I will write about academic books that have some potential for a wider audience. I'm reviewing a book on the presidency right now.

Do you remember that Kinks song that goes:

"I might end up a rock and roll god/
It might even turn into a steady job."

Maybe the blog goddess gig will follow the same course.
